TEJADA NAMED CAA ROOKIE OF THE YEAR; THREE TIGERS EARN ALL-CAA HONORS

      TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University men's basketball team placed three on the All-CAA postseason awards list, the conference announced Thursday. Tyler Tejada was named CAA Rookie of the Year, the first Tiger to receive the award in program history. Tejada was joined by fellow rookie Dylan Williamson and graduate student Charles Thompson in earning postseason honors.

      Tejada is the first Tiger to win a major award since Nicolas Timberlake was CAA Sixth Man of the Year during the 2019-20 season. The New Jersey native was second on the team in scoring at 10.1 ppg and collected 3.3 rpg. He shot 41.8 percent from the floor and 35.1 percent from three. In addition to being Rookie of the Year, Tejada was also named to the CAA All-Rookie Team.

      Charles Thompson earned All-CAA Third Team honors as well as CAA All-Defensive Team honors. This is his third All-CAA award and his third straight appearance on the All-Defensive Team. Thompson averaged 9.5 ppg and a team-best 8.5 rpg this season. He dished out 64 assists and blocked 44 shots, good for fourth-most in the league. The graduate student is the program leader in games played and games started plus is second in minutes played and 14th in scoring.

      Joining Tejada on the All-Rookie Team was redshirt freshman Dylan Williamson. Williamson had a stellar season in his first playing season for the Tigers. Williamson scored at a 9.7 ppg clip, shooting 40 percent from the floor and 32 percent from three. He led the team with 93 assists and had a 1.9 assist to turnover ratio.

      Tyler Thomas from Hofstra was named CAA Player of the Year with Amari Williams of Drexel repeating as Defensive Player of the Year. Bryce Butler of Charleston (Sixth Man), Christian Ray of Delaware (Scholar-Athlete), Zac Ervin of Elon (Dean Ehlers Leadership) and Pat Kelsey of Charleston (Coach) also won major awards.

      The Tigers will open the 2024 Jersey Mike's CAA Men's Basketball Championship as the five seed on Saturday, Mar. 9. Towson will face the winner of No. 12 North Carolina A&T and No. 13 William & Mary at 2:30 p.m. on FloHoops with Matt Janus, Monika Moore and Karlie Smith on the call.
